Graphic vs Parametic EQ

Neither one is good or bad. It just depends on what you like to use.

Parametric lets you set the frequency the Q factor(determines the width of frequencies to be affected) and the boost/cut.

While graphic simply lets you boost/cut preset frequencies.

Beginners would probably prefer a graphic while more advanced might want a good parametric for more adjustability.

^ pretty much it.

To elaborate, "q" is the "width" of the boost or cut. So, if you have 0.5 Q, the boost or cut will effect other surrounding frequencies much more than if you have a "q" setting of above .5...especially if it is above 2.

Agreed, graphic eq's below 1/3 or 2/3rd octave are usually what most " new to audio" folks like. My personal preference is a 7-11 band parametric but am happy with a 1/3rd octave. Overall an eq's ability is no better than the owner of the equipment. Kind of like an engine tuner. You can have the same engine tuned 10 different ways, some ways ****, some are great. Just depends on the skill of the tuner.
