most likely home stereo speakers. hell id use em as midbass drivers in my car... but im ghetto like that. Im gonna slavage some old *** (and i mean OLD) kicker 8's from some tubes i had laying around that the tubes got messed up... old school drivers FTW

i found a little info from parts express......

Butyl rubber surrounds are superior to foam in two important ways. First, the butyl rubber resists moisture and will not dry rot, prividing years of service. Second, the rubber surround, due to its superior damping characteristics will greatly reduce cone break up and ensure low distortion. These woofers are ideal for replacing and upgrading old, worn out drivers. They all feature a polypropylene cone, vented pole piece, foam gasket, soft poly dust cap, and stamped steel frame.

That's changed a lot in recent years. Treated foam surrounds are just as reliable as rubber, they've come a long way since the Advent/KLH days.
