got the JL's metered last night.....

I was at the meet in oldsmar last night (TJ elite custom) and had a blast, very fun. Got to listen to jays van put up a 154. it was fvcking loud. But anyways, I got my JL W6's measured on the new TL at 135.9. I was pretty happy, considering it was with a $80 VR3 (walmart) cd player with a 1000 MV output lol. But, the guy who was metering me came up to me and said that almost half of my sound is stuck in the trunk (mercedes are built like tanks). He said that If I was to remove this metal sheet behind my rear seat, it could be putting up near 140-142. But I already knew that this was a problem, cause you can put your phone on my trunk and it will jump about half a foot in the air lol. I hate my car.......

If you are happy with the results that's all that matters! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

yeah lol, i got a huge metal slab in da bak of my caddy, not a lot of sound gets to me, but i took out my 2 6x9's cuz they were blown and made ports, so that helps aLOT! gj I got a 135.9 on my 1st run wit my cvrs 2

but i also only had a 500w amp lol

OR......you could cut out "most" of the sheet metal back there and replace it with an "X" brace made out of 1" x 1/8" flat steel. Would only need to bolt it in, so no welding required.

They offer kits for many cars to stiffen up the chassis, but mostly for cars that will drag race or autocross, so probably won't have a prebuilt one for your car. Go the DIY route, save a few $$$, and be proud of your accomplishment. Oh yeah...and enjoy more bass in the cabin!!!

My concern with doing that is while you are cutting the car body can flex.... then doors will never close right etc etc...

But, I guess if you removed only a little metal at a time and bolted it down before you started you should be fine....

Not really an issue if you're "only" removing the sheet metal behind the rear seats as it does VERY little for the structural support of a full frame car. The pillars/roof/glass/rear deck actually provide the majority of the support back there. I've cut up several cars that I built for drag racing and have learned where you can remove metal to lighten them up and where you need to brace them to eliminate chassis flex.

Not an "expert" by any means but I'm 99% confident telling the OP that he'll be fine, especially since my recommendation is to replace it with the "X" brace which will in fact be MUCH stronger than the orignal thin sheet metal.

Well my thoughts were on it only removing an amount of material that were in between taking it all out and leaving it all in...

I have been debating about doing this to the Buick since I put subs in it....

Who knows, my brother is a weld master so if I do tear that out welds will be put in....

If you don't care for rear speakers, take them out and that should do the trick.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If I were you I will let it as it is, UNLESS you are into some serious competition.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/suave.gif.858fc102f7646e678ee8af7e1fbc41d1.gif

For a daily driver what you score is a good number and enough loudness //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif .

Makes no sense to me to make a bass machine off a Mercedes Benz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/slap.gif.87520e8ca8e90076ac30e777c0de5331.gif

Uhhhh, I wouldnt remove the metal slab in your trunk. I believe in most mercedes the gas tank is located between the back seats and the trunk...

Taking that out could end your life.....but seriously, it could. I would check that out first.

in my old maxima to make a ghetto wall we did that. where there used to be metal was there after anice big *** box.but ya if you cut out some metal go back and brace it, and youll be fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
