Got scammed on Ebay... Well, kind of...

I was looking for a perticular stage play on DVD and found one at a reasonable price on Ebay. I sent the seller a message and asked if the movie was the original DVD or a bootleg copy. THe seller replied and assured me that the movie was a brand new in shrink wrap original DVD. I used the Buy Now option to purchase the DVD.

It arrived and eager to see just "what it do" I tore into the envelope. Sure enough... the DVD case looked as it was factory sealed so I commenced to remove the shrink wrap. I snapped the case open and to my surprise I see a white Avery DVD label stuck to the disk. A familliar "Verbatim 16X" proudly branded the inner circle of the disk. I flipped it over and sure enough, it was a burned copy.

I contacted the seller and asked WTF is up? He claims that he was unaware of this. Thats funny, he owns a Ebay store as well as an online store outside of Ebay. Is this common practice when it comes to movies on Ebay? I have purchased quite a few movies there ranging from single titles to boxed sets and have never seen anything like this. I think I will report his ***...

Any input would be appreciated.

He could have ordered them from an outside source and not have known. Either way, you should still report him for selling bootleg merchandise.
Well, I cannot emagine him just now finding out. He has been doing this for a while as there is tons of feedback.

I'd tell him you want your $$ back and if no reply then file a complaint w/PayPal.

Mention the part about copyright infringement issues and I'm sure he'll respond quickly.

He might be getting them from China or something. You can print out the DVD insert on glossy photo paper and buy the black cases and look very original.

If you use white, hub printable-inkjet printable blank DVD's and an Epson Photo printer you can make a pretty good copy of the original DVD by scanning the original then using the printable blank DVD's.

Probably a lot of sellers are doing it. You were just one of the ones who got burned.

well, a few months ago, i bought the movie "rad" from an ebay seller, and he posted brand new in package. i got it, and it wasnt new in package, but burned copy, and photocopied cover.

i emailed the seller, and filed an item not as described report, and not only did the seller never reply, but ebay never helped me either.

the sucky thing is, i couldnt leave negative feedback, because he would have just left me crappy feedback in return, screwing me again!!!

now, i only but dvd'd from a powerseller w/ tons of feedback

This actually happens. I worked at a company that had to get involved in a big case and investigation. We had purchased a truckload of new DVDs. We started selling on Amazon and Ebay only to have the FBI questioning us in a hurry. The people we bought from, folded and disapeared as quickly as they proposed the deal to us. I wouldn't be quick to blame the actual seller.

BTW, yes he should be reported so they can start looking for his source at the time. I am just saying it probably wasn't him. What store btw?
