Hello all,

I just got a Planet Audio VX-6002 and I had it hooked up to 2 Orion P-series subs. Dual 4 ohm. I had them wired in two channel mode at 2 ohms a piece and everything was cool. The first night I had the amp it pounded pretty hard, then the second day I was riding around and the amp started going into protect, it would go in and come out. I tried to shut it off and let it cool, but even when it was cold it would still do the same thing. I don't have to much experience with a DMM but I do own one and I did a quick search around here for some info.

I don't know if I did it right but I hooked the DMM up to one channel and it measured .04 volts, then I hooked it up to the other and it measured .018 volts. This is with the volume at a low level. I tried to wire the subs up to 4 ohms and then bridge them at the amp and it would immediately go into protect when I turned it up very slightly. Can anyone help me figure out what is going on? Thanks.

There is nothing on the amp that says "gain" I just have high and low pass filters, input sensitivity, input level, and bass boost. The bass boost, I only had it turned up about a quarter of the way, I even went as far as to turn everything down and I still got the same result.

How high was the input sensitivity before you turned it down?. That is your gain on that amp by the way.
Oh crap, I wish I knew that, I had it turned up when I first got the amp.

What setting do you have your DMM on?
My DMM is sorta like automatic, I set it on DC volts and it reads whatever the output is. I did the Big three and hooked up the DMM and it read 14.77 at the amplifier power and ground at idle. So I know that I am using the DMM right as far as the settings go.

Edit: I was doing some further reading and realized that the DMM should be on AC volts when testing the speaker output. I'm gonna hook the amp back up tomorrow and go at it again. Hopefully it isn't ruined.

I would take it one step at a time. If you running a 2 ohm load, I would disconnect that configuration and try a 4 ohm load. See what happens.

I would also adjust the gains all the way down. Do you have the amp in an area where it can be somewhat ventilated.

If you get a setup that works, I would then start going back to the original setup one step at a time. See what happens.

I hope that helps.

Ok well today I hooked the amp back up and did not wire the subs at all. Something seems like it is wrong with the amp because I got a bass mechanics cd and tried to play a test tone with the dmm hooked up. Well when I did that even with no speakers hooked up I saw the power light would still keep flickering on and off, so I am going to try and get another amp.

sounds like the amp is toast. my sony did the same thing, before it totally quit. power ligth flickered like crazy, and then protect. sometimes though it would play

for a minute, then shut down again, then no power light, only protect.
