got my new 13w7

what is the difference between reactive and resistive?
Resistive load means just that, driving resistor(s). So, you get a X ohm load regardless of frequency.

A reactive load has a changing impedance, so it more accurately mimics how the amp performs driving a speaker.

Yea I built the box to jl's specs 2.3^3 feet tuned to 32hz. It took me forever to get this thing I bought it a month ago n it was in back order. Dose anyone have other suggestions on amplifiers that have many of the features the jl has on their amps.

Hey guys, im still looking into getting two w7's and this thread is really starting to make me think i could get just as good of subs for way less the money what do you guys think is it worth it? Any help would be greatly appreciated im just still confused and need to figure out what subs to buy. Im looking for really good sq but also want to hit around 155-160 in the db range.

thanks

mike

Look at reaudio.com

the SX models

Yea i have looked into both the sx, and the xxx. The main reason i was looking w7 besides that there a great sub is that i have limited space. I have a 72 chevelle with two nos tanks in the back and other goodies. So i was looking into two of them ported? Would two w7 ported get me close to 160 tuned to about 32hz? Or do you guys have any other ideas?

You are looking at W7's due to limited space?

And no, two 12" W7's wont get you 160db's in a 72 chevelle, unless you plan on rebuilding the car as an SPL rig. 160dbs (TL) is very very difficult to hit. With those two subs in a 'standard' install you would be very (very) lucky to hit 150 legal (TL), let alone 160. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No.

If you have to ask if you'll hit 160, you do not have experience to get there yet.

Just curious, but have you ever heard anything in the 155-160db range?

Muchless 150?

#1 You need to understand that to obtain those #'s you need to be very experienced in box design and ways to maximize SPL. You can't just drop subs into a box and hit 160db. A 160db box is also not something you would want to listen to on a daily basis. It'd be a specialized SPL box. And, like Audioholic said; If you have to ask how to get there, you don't have the skills yet to do it.

And #2, you need to understand how loud 160db is. It is NOT something you would listen to on a daily basis.

Oh yeah.....you are new here, so I'll let it go this time. But, in the future, if you are going to drag someone else's post this far off the original top (he was still waiting on more amp suggestions), then it would be infinitely better if you started your own thread about it.
