The deductible is CHOSEN by the policy holder (YOU) at initial policy sign up. I myself, have at $250 deductible. Because I know that everything on the newer cars costs at least $500-800 just to start.
Get into a minor collision, lets say the front bumper cover for your Honda Civic is fubar. Parts alone will cost over $500. Not including paint and labor. So if you have a $1k deductible, and the claim is for $1200, your footing most of the bill.
I would rather pay a little more every quarter, then having to pay a lot more down the road.
Besides if you have a good driving record, no tickets and/or accidents, your rates stay low.
Besides if rates were individual, why were my rates as a 22 year old male (I'm now 32) were 4 times higher on my Mustang 5.0 than my 19 y/o sister on the same car with the same coverage?
Its actually a biased system. Most men pay more for the same policy as a female. My wife was paying less for full coverage on a 3 month old car than I was on a 10 year old car with only liability.
BTW innsanes, its the law for insurance in all 50 states.
tcc300 - why get rid of a good thing???? insurance f uks ppl, then they wonder why ppl **** them.....
Its a never ending circle. Insurance phucks people, people phucks the insurance companies, then the insurance companies jack up the rates again, ******** people, then the people phuck the insurance companies.
Get a clue. If the public stopped insurance fraud, your rates would be only based on how poorly you drive.
