Got my bass, and some questions. *PICS*

So i finally picked up my bass after getting some help from a thread on here a while ago, and im incredibly happy with what i got. I ordered a Dean Edge 10a with the active electronics, a recommendation from another member. My only issue replacing the pesky battery. I love the way it sounds, but i have yet to finish my big amp to unlock its potential.

Now for my questions. First, I've have been using my old gay 5 watt ebay amp's board to practice on. I have a spare kenwood amp that powers an EHQS 8 in a sealed box, which is hooked up via high level inputs to the guitar amp. A couple days ago, i noticed the speaker connection on the amp board was loose and cut out randomly, so i attempted to resolder some new ones, but my gigantic iron fuxored the board and i can't get any sound out of it, even with a cable I made to hook up to the headphone output.

So, being the crafty man i am, i took the cable i made (1/4" plug to RCA) i hooked the bass directly up to the amp and cranked the gain up, because as far as I understand the guitar has REALLY low preamp output, and its been working fine since. The thing is, it sounds WAY different, not bad, or distorted, but more flat and deep, also i lost a lot of tone control, and Im not sure if i like it. Im wondering what i need to do it the right way, as Im tired of my jerry rigged stuff. Im thinking i can buy the 20.00 first act amp at a pawnshop near me and tap into the speaker outputs and use the high inputs on the amp. Will this work?

Finally, since I've been slowly learning to slap, there are small marks made into the pickup cover from the string smacking it. They are in the pics. As far as I know, it doesnt affect anything, but if i sell it in the future i think it may be a problem. I cant imagine it'd be that expensive for a new cover.

Any ways, pics.

the tone will change yet again, but you could lower the pickups to keep the string slap to a minimum!
I think i was just a bit over zealous when i first started and was hitting them too hard.

Does someone make like a preamp of sorts that takes in the guitars output and converts it to what normal amp can accept?

there are all kinds of "heads" you can buy....

BTW, at the cost of an input module you can buy a decent sub amp
