Got metered with the two 8s

Scored 140.4 @ 47.6Hz on the AC meter (legal). I'm sure that's not as acurate as the TL mic, but will get metered this weekend on the TL (thinking it's closer to 138). I'm sure I could do a bit better, but I'm da mn happy with the setup. I know it hits pretty loud and low as it distorted my voice and shook the cr ap out of my eyes that I couldn't see straight.

The setup: (2003 Neon)

JL 500/1 @1.5ohms pushing 2 JL 8W7.

JL 300/4

- Front: JL XR650csi

- Rear: JL XR690cxi

Headunit: Kenwood KDC-X889

The Box: 1.8cu ft @ 36hz (each side)

What I want to know. What have other people hit with just two 8s. Curious to see how the setup stacks up.

You sure can. Especially for a burp. It's a shame you didn't.

And a 140 does not translate to a 138 on the TL FYI.

Not sure on the meter, it wasn't mine. It was one of the meters from a torn down Ultimate Electronics. The guy said it was only three years old at max.

Yeah, I could have gone two 500/1 amps, but since this is my DD I wasn't going for SPL, just sound quality at high volume.

What do 2 8's sound like?

Like do you get that low *** rumbly bass when its played? Or it is really super punchy?

Ive never even thought about getting that small of a sub, but if people can do what you did with it, thats pretty good... and not a huge box to do it.

Official TL rating is 136.1 @ 48.4. That's still pretty da mn good for two 8s. I'm quite happy with it. As mentioned earlier, I could probably hook up another 500/1 and get a better score... but I'll stick with this for a while.

Something to think about Psynce, the JL dub 7s are pushing the air for the size of an average 10" cone with an xmax at an average 12". I've done the single 15 game, two 12s, single 12, three 10s, & two 10s... it gets about as low as the 12s. I'm sure there are other 8s out there capable of tuning as low or even lower, but the question remains how loud they can get. Now I just need to find some grills and start working on the false floor for a better spot for the amps. I'll get some pics here in a bit.

Still interested in other setup numbers with two 8s. I'm sure others have done similar.

The fill is very nice. I have all the mid that I need, I just need to add more upper range fill for higher than 12KHz. Other than that, the output is fairly flat.
