got into a discussion on another forum: best place for a ground

NoviceGuru: can someone explain to me what you mean by running the ground to the battery. maybe a picture of the two different ground set ups. i have only seen a amp grounded to the chasis and i am having a hard time painting a mental image of what running a ground to the battery would look like. and yes i know you not talking about running your amp ground to your neg post.

Umm...actually, that's exactly what they're talking about. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

haha really? why would running it to the negative be better then a short run to the chasis.

i never had any whine or noise grounding both amps to my front battery in my ***** am, or to the rear in my explorer, although that wire was only about a 20 inches long.

so if you dont have the big 3 done then stick with a chassis ground? and if you do have the big three then its safe to run the wire from front to back?
Actually the opposite.

If you have 4ga cable running to your amp, and you ground with a 4ga cable to the chassis, and your battery to chassis ground is only 8-10ga ... then you're bassically grounding your amp with a 10ga wire.

If you have already upgraded the battery to chassis ground to 1/0, then you can ground the amp in the rear with 4ga

guess what the silver wire goes to

The overall goal of grounding should be 2 things:

1 Keeping the resistance at the grounding points and over the wire length to a minimum per setup.

2 Keeping the grounding resistances as equal as possible.

However someone chooses to run them, those 2 criteria should be met. The problem arises with multiple electronics in a car that when someone grounds some of the electronics to the (-) post of the battery and some to the chassis, the resistances are unequal.

quick ?

if i run 1 1/0 ground wire to the chassis from negative terminal on battery and also a 4 gauge ground wire from same negative terminal to same ground or maybe different ground on chassis, would that be same as running a bigger wire? or do i need to buy bigger wire and just run 1 run. Because my terminal has 2 1/0 inputs 1 4 gauge input and also a 8 gauge input so im just wondering.
