i have an amp that can only give 500rms at 4ohms

and my sub is dual 4ohms if i wire the subwoofer to the amp it will drop to 20hms which i dont think my amp is stable

so can i just use one of the two voice coils to give it 500rms at 4ohms

and leave the 2nd Voice coil alone

Not really a great idea. You can wire the sub down to 8 ohms. You should receive roughly half the power but should still get you some decent output. Any amp is stable at higher impedances, even if it is not rated at those impedances.

theres been like 489438493 threads on this in the last two weeks, i swear.

why?! why cant we just buy subs and amps that work well together ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Do not power just the 1 coil of your dvc sub. As a matter of fact forget about ever thinking it in the first place. Your dual 4 ohm sub by itself can be wired down to 2 ohms or up to 8 ohms. If your amp only is stable @ 4 ohms, then wire the sub to 8 ohms and run your amp to it this way. A future upgrade to an amp that is stable @ 2 ohms may be something to consider IMO

Buy another subwoofer of the same kind dual 4ohm and then wire them to 4 ohms, problem fixed. Or get a single voice coil 4ohms.

the sub IS dual 4ohms but becaise DUAL 4ohms it can only be wired as 2ohms to the amp which isnt stable on the amp

why not just series the sub? and keep it at 4 ohm using both coils. In my truck I have quad 1.5 ohms, 6 subs in total. I put 2 subs per the amp and I am running it at .75. All four post are ran in series and the combination of both, now it at .75. Did you follow that example or did I ramble on? lol
