my friend bought an entire system retail from best buy, and spend over 1100$ with tax. he got 2 12" alpine type r's (250$ a piece), an ok kenwood amp (200$), a ported box for 100$, a decent sony flip down deck (200$), and wiring (85$). i thought that was insane considering he didnt get a great amp or deck.

I got 3 MTX Thunder 5500 12" subs on ebay, all brand new for 190$, i bid on 1 for 45$, and paid 145$ for the other 2. A memphis PRD1000.1 amp refurbished for 170$, and it has worked like a charm. I built a 3 sub sealed box specifally for these subs for 30$ (wood and paint), and bought a 4 gauge memphis wire kit + 12 gauge memphis spkr wire for 85$ with tax retail. I got my deck on ebay for 125$ brand new as well. its an alpine 9843. All of that comes to 600$.

i added in the shipping costs for the ebay items into the totals i listed above too.

I know all the big studs out there are gonna say my stuff isnt that good, but there is no way anyone out there can tell me that 2 alpines on a decent amp and deck is worth 500$ more than what i have. i think that for 600$ flat, i made out pretty well.

thats a pretty decent budget system, I would of only done two subs in a ported box, mainly because of the odd impedance load you have with 3

Sometimes, its about quality over quantity.

If you like them, then thats what counts though.

i know, but i didnt really know how much wires changed things, i heard on here it makes no dif, and it makes all the dif, so i just spent the extra 30-50 and got memphis.
