Good 300w subwoofer

Hey im trying to help my friend out putting a subwoofer in his altima.

Right now he has a RockfordFosgate punch 301M currently pushing 150w RMS at 4 ohms to a peice of junk audiobahn sub.

To show him what it will sound like with 300w rms at 2 ohms i hooked up my spare 12" kicker comp vr, It sounded very nice and he liked it.

So i found him a brand new MB Quart DWG 304. I wired the coils up in parallel to get a 2 ohm load and hooked it all up and it was not as loud as my kicker at all.

Whats the deal?

Nows hes looking for a better 300w sub to hook up and doesnt know what to get.

was the mb quart not loud just b/c its a bad sub or did i do something wrong?

at the end of the month jl audio should be releasing the new w0v2"s.

the 10w0v2 looks good imo and will be cheaper than the w1v2's

mb quarts are more of a sq driver. what type of box was your kicker in and what type is the quart in?

Different subs want different size/type of boxes. Good suggestions above. I would also suggest you look at Elemental Designs ED12, Dayton HO 12" from (parts express), and AQ 12".

Then build a good box to suit what the manufacturer suggests for that sub.

hes on a budget now....he thinks bc he got his audiobahn so cheap and i got the MB quart so cheap he can spend around $100

you could try that quart in a ported box, not shure if their designed for ported apps. imo the kicker should be a "louder" sub than the quart.

Then the alpine type S may be your best bet, or look for used/sale price on a type R or similar. A good box made to the right specs will mean the difference between good and bad performance. Although I'm a big fan of sealed boxes, I admit that a properly designed ported box will slaughter the output of a sealed box. If it's made right.
