its a popularity contest for the most part. the top 50 posters are eligible to be voted in as a mod. everyone votes and the top 10 are in.

i'd be all for some sort of nomination by say mods and former mods. but that likly wont happen.

I think originally the reason the Top 50 posters were the ones eligible to be elected was that the underlying theory was to pick from the members who participated most on the forum - hence the top posters.

Certainly I could be wrong as I was not around in the beginning so take this with a grain of salt...

But now you have people who aren't really contributing anything of real value but are still racking up monstrous post counts (such as myself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif)

you know, it also has to do with how much time people have spent here and how to work the forum, not just what they know audio wise.

I do agree to an extent. Although i think it should have to do with activity. Not nessicarally who has the highest post count, but who is on the most. I can think of several people, not just mods, that have very high post counts, but are never on. It kind of defeats the purpose to have moderators that are never there to... moderate.

Also it would be nice to have a night owl as a mod too. I was on at 4 and 5 the other night when that one guy was spamming the forum with massive .gif's. But there was nobody to talk to about it... you know because they were doing what normal human beings do... sleep.
