Goob - The Server Needs Immediate Attention Please!!!!

Honestly, everys single thing has been done to maximize the server to handle the load, that we know of. The memory is also maxed out. It's no slouch server - Dell Dual Xeon 4GB.
Is it an 8## series Dell?

I can probably suggest a few things if you're interested. Also, what type of ram did you use?

Striping RAID on 15k rpm HDD's...

Sounds like you might go to x64's so you can go above 4GB but all this will cost a pretty penny....

Once you switch platforms you'll end up ditching the RAM, CPU and Motherboard... which for servers is quite spendy...... g/l goob... I hope our little forum is making you $$$...

Also what type of SQL are you running?? Maybe there is a more efficient type... it'd be a freakin serious headache to change/upgrade but it'd be cheaper???

The bandwidth is fine, its the server cpu usage that is causing th issue. It spikes, then gives the server busy message, locks people out and calms down. If this didn't happen the load would continue to rise and could cause the server to crash, which would take much longer to get back going again. I hope to have this resolved asap. Whatever it takes I will get it done.
Nah. Just sell me the domain and database. Problem solved! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

HDD changes would require taking the server offline/making users cry. Changing the memory would require changing the mobo. I think if it came down to drastic hardware changes, he would rather keep the server because it's expensive as-is, and add another server.

True...... and they way computer performance to the cost of building it goes 2x servers running a 3/4 of the fastest possible would be 1/2 the cost of the fastest possible single server... and be able to serve more people...

well I'm sure goob knows his business...

Yup, never hurts to listen to advice though, especially when it can save you a few grand. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Or keep the current server and put the database on a new one, or vice versa.
Another option would be to throw a cache box in front of it. What's probably hogging the utilization is the fact that your server is having to access the same content over and over again. A cache box can cut down on that redundant reloading, and it would be a heck of a lot easier than splitting your web server.

True... I've never done enterprise level hardware but I'm very familiar with desktop hardware, servers and any type of troubleshooting...

Let us know if you ever need help good...

Yeah, I actually have hands-on and off experience with the same servers goob is probably on. I really get enough of this at work, but I see it as an opportunity to contribute to CA.com. Who else can say that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Well, PM me if you need any help with the issue Goob.
