Goob - The Server Needs Immediate Attention Please!!!!

Goob, I'm not sure what you have figured out at this point... but I manage a few servers and I can give some suggestions.

First of all, make sure the vBulletin software is up to date. They're constantly tweaking things and making sure it's running as fast as it can be.

Also, in the Admin CP, there are tools at the bottom of the navigation. Repair/optimize and select all the tables in the database and run the tool on them. This will clear up the overhead, and make sure the database is working as efficiently as possible.

I would also run the misc. tools, like removing anything labeled as "orphan" to clean things up a little bit.

Upgrading the forum software is on the list, just have to get enough beer in to handle all the errors and tweaking we will get. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ok...about the Mods.

What the newbies can't seem to get through their head is that the mods don't necesarily have to be geniouses in the car audio field. The best requirement for Mod, is someone that is always here, and that won't let the power go to their heads...like some of our current mods //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I would also like to see term limits on moderators, and NO MODS THAT ARENT ELECTED SHOULD BE ALOUD TO MODERATE THE FORUM!.

You know, no matter how much you try this place is still going to have problems with spam/useless threads/worthless posts and members. But a strong mod team can go a long way. The size of the site you wont be able to stop everything...and if you think you can and promote yourself by sayin "I'll clean this place up" LIAR. no one man/two men/ten men will effectivly control ~300 active members...it wont happen. But like others have mentioned spreading the Mods accross the country. Hell 3 from Each Time zone, and make sure one of those members is like Preston mentioned (A night owl) that way its pretty safe to say that at least 1 moderator will be on at all times or will only leave a small gap around 4am CST when basically the whole country is asleep.

There are so many ways we could help this place out, and like another well respected meber pointed out to me tonite via IM other forums have loaded themselves down with advertisements and "money making" schemes to just stay afloat. This place has a pretty dammn efficient layout and a smooth design. Only if the server didnt shit itself every 10 minutes this would be a great/easy forum to view.

AND why not whilst im on my soapbox here...

If anyone is a memeber of OT.com there is a new members forum where moderators have to approve threads/posts. Something like this DOESN't limit traffic to the site, but also controls posting by people that have no right to...not to mention will ELIMINATE VIRTUALLY ALL SPAMING IN THE REGULAR FORUMS.

Just somethings to think about...

but hey, I know nothing.

It will be in the next few weeks at the most.
Will the requirements for eligibility for consideration be the same - the Top 50 posters - or will there be some other method of choosing who the people being voted on are?

And again - thanks for taking the time to respond to us this evening.
