Golden nugget or what?

We are moving houses, and I was going through my sons closet, and do not ask me how or where it came from, (I'm guessing out of the box my diseased father gave to us before he passed away, he was a big collector of items like this. Not sure. Never seen it before, anyone have an idea what this thing is worth?

dishwasher soap will rub the fake gold color off as well.

take a hammer and smash it to see if there is some other material inside other than gold.

It will not pull to a magnet, I just tried with several differn't magnets around the house.

I tried the dish soap, and a wire b rush and color is still the same? Here is after 20 minutes of dish soap, soaking, and wire brushing.

Take it to a jeweler, or a pawn broker.... ask them what your crystilline gold is worth.

Gold doesnt have that kind of crystal like structure (the parts that are reflecting the light), it comes out of the ground looking melted so I would agree with regal8r its pyrite.

Take it to a jewler to be sure though.
