going on a road-trip... need advice

my gf and i are going to Texas over christmas break to her sisters and then we are going to rent a vehicle and drive to the Grand Canyon and possibly vegas. does anyone have a recommendations of any other places to hit in the area or on the way? also what web sites to find the cheapest flights.

Hotwire.com for cheap cars, flights and hotels. The catch is that you don't see the time or airline you'll be flying, just the day (they do flights between 6AM and 10PM if I remember right) and they don't tell you the hotel name (just the star rating) or the rental car company (who cares if its the cheapest IMO).

Travelocity.com if you need to know the place or company. A lot of times I use Travelocity and am able to pick out the place that hotwire is offering. (stayed at a Hilton suite in Louisville, KT for $60 and the Sheraton Bal Harbour (on South Beach, FL) for $130 using Hotwire before.)

Hit up the needle ride and the edge drop ride on the Stratosphere in Las Vegas (skip the one that just goes around on the edge).
