GM small case alternator upgrade to large case alt

i have a 2002 s10 4.6l v6, i believe it has a 8283a (100amp) alternator. i have hear and seen some things about upgrading to a dr44g alternator, i believe the plugs and mounts are the same. Can anyone confirm that this swap will work?

High output alternator. I thought maybe you were upgrading to get more amps out of newer alternator.

i am upgrading for more amps just trying not to spend 350- 500$ on a alternator right now, trying to see if i can find more amps cheaply

You will regret putting a cheap alternator on in the long run. Those cheap units don't put out what they claim nor do they last long. Best to save up some more money then till you can afford to go with something that is quality vs cheap chinese junk.

the dr44g isn’t a cheap alternator its an oem chevy alternator, that pushes 140 amps compared to my now 100amps, im just looking to see if anyone knows how the swap goes/works/has done it.

Did I say that one was a cheap alternator? 140 amps isn't all that much in all honesty. Idk what you plan on running but more amps the better. You would be better off saving up for one of the 200-350 amp alternators and tbh asking on a Chevy S-10 forum they are out there.

Why drop $200+ for 25-300a when $20 can get you an easy 140-160 (or double that if you nix the A/C compressor) and when its not enough there are kits to get an easy 200 out of a ad244 or dr44/g.
Local pick it yourself yards sell cheap and its easy to find a late 2000/early2010 decked out escalade or denali with one of the following rpos
K68 = 105AMP
KG7 = 125AMP
KG8 = 130AMP
KG3 = 145AMP
KW1 = 160AMP
Hell, ANY fullsize chevy with a 4.3/5.3/5.7/6.0 should have something worth grabbing. Personally I got my dr44 off a yukon denali and luckily it was a 2 pin connector. The units with 2 pins can be pwm controlled for their output using a cheap af pwm generator off of amazon/ebay. Just send one of the pins 128hz and a duity cycle of 6-94% to get 11.5ish-15.2v. Grabbed both a dr44 and dr44g, one with the 2 pin plug, one with the 4 pin, 15ft 4g wire, pcm and electric fan for just under $50 at my local yard.

That alt is enough (along with a rear mounted h9 agm) to keep the system going full tilt for 30-60 mins nonstop driving before the voltage starts to sag a little.
