Glueing dustcap over dustcap?

My buddy has an Fi Q with a scrape on the dustcap. Would it be ok to just glue a new dustcap over the original or should I just remove the old one? I would just go ahead and cut the old one off but im kinda nervous about damaging the cone. Thanks

Its all cosmetic. Its not really a scrape it more like little bit of paper came off. But he has a new dustcap ready to go so were gonna put it on. Is there any kind of glue that I can get at an autoparts store that will work good? I was gonna get some goop but I wanted to install this sub tomorrow.
