Girlfriend car

Hey all,

Haven't been around in a while... been busy with school and work. Figure you guys would know best, so I'm back with a question: What car is a good choice for a teenage girl?

My girlfriend is turning 16 next month and getting her license, and I was going to surprise her with a car (I'd make payments on it until she gets a job in a few months).

My dream car was always a 1960-1970 Impala convertible, but she doesn't like classic cars or square cars. She wants something small, but I hate small cars. Her mom was gonna give her the family's mini-van (like a 10 year old Dodge) but she said she'd rather walk than drive it. I don't see the big deal, I'm taking the mini van and fixing it up when they get rid of it.

Thanks for the opinions guys!

Yugo? Man you're like 17 or so, dont go spending all that money on some chick. Just my 2 cents.
Haha, I'm 15... but I make enough money to make car payments. You will probably think it sounds stupid, but I've been with her for a bit over a year... but my tolerance level for girlfriend drama and shit like that is very low, she's amazing... she's the ONLY girl I've met who I can stand. I'll only be making car payments for a few months, and she'll approve the car before I go out and buy it... but she doesn't even have any idea what she lives.

if ur going to probably mary her, if u have been with her for longer than like a year and a half. then buy her a car. dood all girls like vw's go for that or a honda. they last for ever.

Do you even drive?

I agree with Cat, get a VW passat or whatever girls are driving..

I know a lot of people that went out forever in high school, can only think of a couple that are still together //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

Its your money kenny. If it was mine, I'd save it/invest it....not just blow. I've blown plenty of money in my life, just one of those things ya have to learn on your own //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. Sounds like she doesnt have much $ right now, prolly something that is cheaper on insurance and gas...integra would be a good idea.

I was going to say VW jetts TDI. That is what my girl drives and she loves it. 50mpg off that diesel engine. Her turbo just died though and it is going to cost her 2k to get it fixed. So make sure you get a good one if you look into it.

I get my license in July (she's 3 months older than me) but I already have a car and fixed up how I want it.

I'm going to put away money in a mutual fund when I turn 16... it's like my new age resolution. I just want my girlfriend to be able to drive when all of her friends are driving, her parents' business isn't doing that great (from my understanding) and when I mentioned a car to her mom she wasn't too joyful.

I know a girl whose parents just bought here a 2k VW, already had to do a 1.5k repair to it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Go jap, not german //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. I'm not german hater, shit I'm part German and look at the name //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. Just a better car imo for a younger person w/ money issues.

This is a bad idea! You may as well order her some rims from Ladd Murdock while you're at it!!!

BUT........

If you are hell bent on doing this, here is how you can protect yourself in the long run:

Get the loan in her name or her parents name since she is a minor. This way, you can still make the payments (score points with her) and if there is a bitter break-up some time in the future, and she keeps the car, it up to her to make payments. It keeps you and your parents credit report in the clear.

Trust me, I did something similar (only reversed roles) when I was 18 or 19. My girlfriend at the time co-signed on a loan. We broke up, I was late on a bunch of payments, and her credit history was ruined. I made it up to her several years later, when I had a decent paying job. I payed her a bunch of money I owed her, with interest, and sent her some flowers...

Anyway, you gotta protect yourself. Why do you think the have pre-nuptuals these days???
