Getting spiked readings with DMM

I am getting spiked readings with two of my DMM's using a 50hrz tone. It works fine at the battery... Does it matter if i test using the speaker wire instead of the terminal. Its not easy for me to get to the terminal but I will if i have to.

Are you measuring in AC volts on the output of the amps?

Measuring on the speaker wire is fine...
