Get rid of SXs for single MT?????

So I have decided that I am not going to destroy my car so I can force two SX 15s in. I have spent enough money trying to make it work now and I'm not happy with it. I should have listened to everyone at automotiveforums.com. They told me I would never get 8 cubes in my Grand Prix.

So here is the plan. Sell the SXs and get a single 15 inch MT with a quad 2.8 ohm coil config. Then run it to strapped NINe.1s at 2.8 ohms. 4 or 5 cube box at 40-45 Hz. Who here knows about MTs? They offer custom spider configurations and I don't know a lot about the difference in spider stiffness. I'm looking for high numbers. Burping in the mid 150s maybe. Maybe not cuz it's in a trunk but we will see.

Opinions on decision appreciated.

1.4 ohms strapped, probably 3500 @ 14.5 volts

each on its own, prbably 1300 or 1400 @ 12.5 volts (had to edit, typo on voltage and power)

its hard to say, many tests have been done @ 1 ohm and less on a single amp. never seen a test with two strapped but the highest number ive seen in a test for a single one at 1 ohm was just over 1700 @ 15.x volts

how do you get 3500 strapped? that would mean each amp would put out 1750rms, dont see that happening

but they should be enough fo ran MT daily, but dont expect a 150+ with only 2400rms-ish

i dont feel that amp taking 15.x volts daily, and doing 1700rms

other than that it sounds good to me, MT's are nice

why not just get dual 1.4's? i would say 3 stiff spiders in your casem just keep the original one

Well, it'll be more than 2400 RMS. It's 2500 at 12.5 volts strapped. I run a steady 14.6 volts system. The amps are 2 ohm stable when strapped so 1.4 ohms strapped at 14.x volts would be some serious power. Not too mention it would void the warranty on the amps. I have heard of people running the NINe.1 at .5 ohm strapped for burps but supposedly it draws so much current that a less than perfect electrical system can't handle it. Using dual 1.4s is fine. I just figured gettting the quads would give me more options for amps in the future if I ever decide to change (not likely, I love these NINe.1s)

and then you factor in your impedence rise and find out you only get 10 watts.

i run a steady 14+ volt system...do you see me getting 2500+ watts out of this 2500D? nope, because of impedence rise

I don't get how I can't hit 150. I have a buddy with an Eclipse Ti 15 and a 1600 wattt MTX monoblock in a prefab box port and sub firing up in a Mitsu Eclipse and he hit 150.1 on an AC mic. Granted it's not a TL but the MT is not a Ti and eD is not MTX. What about a snailshell or TCAB? I'd like to glass it with the port between the seat and the sub sideways (Like Fryman's box turned sideways so the port is forward between the seats). I just made a paint pic of my box idea but can't seem to post it. It looks sweet as hell. If someone could post if for me I'd appreciate it. Just give me you email and I'll send it to you.

Your buddy is doing any where around 140-147 on a TL.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

what if I do decide to cut out my back seat and forward fire the subs and port. 8-10 cubes @ 45 Hz with 120+ sq inches of port? mabye im just stalling because i dont want to lose my back seat. ill probably end up doing it anyway so i should just get over it and start cutting sheetmetal.
