Generic Question

Alrighty, I'm doing a nice set-up for a friend and would like a little help with our subwoofer decision. It's going to be a dual 12" set-up regardless. We're glassing the trunk, so ported really isn't an option; we're going to have to run these babies sealed. From what he has told me, he wants like 60/40 SPL/SQ. Power isn't really an issue; whatever woofer we decide on will get sufficient power. Price isn't really important; I think a dub7 might be out of the question, but a $400-$500 dollar woofer will be doable. A couple of subs that we have brain stormed have included the SI Magnum, Diamond D9, maybe an IDMAX, RE XXX (how are these in sealed enclosures? I have mine ported, but would like to see what people think of running them sealed). That's about all of the list for the moment. I think I covered everything. Anyone have any suggestions/comments?

edit: this is going in the back of a 300C. He really liked an install I had done before, so it's going to look something like this:

why cant your port it? Precision ports FTW!
Tell me more. I just have no idea how I'd port that set-up. How would you measure the volume of the box? It seems like that alone would eff up your measurements, but then again, you know better than I. Do you have a pic I could look at?

Well, the most accurate way to measure your volume, is to fill er up with water. BUT, obviously sometimes that cant happen. So, what a lot of people do is use packing peanuts. Fill up your box, then pour it all out of your box into a square box. Then measure and calculate the cubic feet. It is pretty simple to do. All the ported boxes we sell, we use precision ports, and this is how we go about calculating the airspace.

By the way, im not better than you.

I never said you were better than me, I said you know better than me;) . I'm intrigued by these precision ports. How many/what size would I need to use? I know it's dependent on the woofer, but generally how many? Thanks for answering my ?'s,

Sorry, anywho, it really does depend on the woofer. Generally, for some lower line subs, a 3" port per sub would suffice. But if your going higer end you will need probably at least 1 4" port per sub, probably more. It really just depends. Just look at the specs of the sub, and usually they will give you the rec port area for the sub, then just try to get as close as you can to that with the precision ports.

Id saw IDMax's would do well for sealed. Or some Avalanch's...both really good SQ...different ranges though....W6's???
yeah, I loved my IDMAX's sealed. I'm just not sure if they get loud enough for what this guy wants. I might just have to try the precision ports, or convince him to get larger woofers and mess with the set-up
