G'day

and

Clarion SRS1626 component 6inch 'front' speakers:

headunit = 53 watts x4

speakers = 40watts RMS (continuos power)

I'm running the speakers off the head unit and I think I’m experiencing clipping when I get to about 20 on the volume (33 being the highest). The 'clipping' is only affecting the lower frequencies, hence the bass is distorting at 20. The frequency response of the speakers is in the above link, but I’m not sure if it’s the head-unit or the speakers.

Would it be a good idea to run the speakers off an amp? Would this reduce the 'distortion' of the bass?

Also when play anything off the usb I’m getting a weird clicking sound...(playing a cd/mp3, tuner, this sound doesn't occur). Maybe its just the headunit??

your HU doesnt have 52 w of power, more like 10-15 at best..

how are your eq settings? if u turned the bass all the way up that could be it, or your doors are for shit so the speaker isnt mounted properly..as for the usb, cant help u there

So 53watt x4 really means 53watts split 4 ways? eg 13.25watts each?

Its not my eq setting i checked that.

my speakers r mounted well, but the doors r a bit hollow. Do you think insulating them would help in the deepness of the bass?

I watched my speakers running off the headunit and they seem to be running pretty hard (eg throwing in and out).
