Gains Are Confusing me

I have a 1200M Boss @ 2-ohm [600x1 @ 2-ohm]. I figured that it needs 36.4 Volts.

I did the 50Hz test tone CD, I turned everything to 0 and no eq, and yet even at full gain it'd only be like 24 Volts. Either I'm an idiot at using a DMM (Which I'm pretty sure I was doing it right), or something's wrong

UPDATE: I went to move my car, with the 50hz test tone CD in, and when I turned off my car there was a huge pop in my speakers. I turned it back on and it was like whirring sounds from the speakers. When I revved it went faster... I know I've read what's wrong, but I forget what it is. I don't know WTF I did. what hu?

Pioneer DEH-P6900UB.

The only wires I even touched were the + and - from the amp to the sub.

Then, all of the sudden a ground messed up. I don't think it's the ones for the amp... so maybe an internal ground for the HU? Is there anyway I could re-ground the HU or something?

Also, why is it that I can't get near the right volts for my subs?

First turn the gain on the amp all the way down.

You need to have your speaker wire disconnected from the amp, and only your RCA';s connected. Then put the head unit on FLAT EQ, and raise the volume to 3/4th's whatthe head unit can take. For instance if your max volume on your head unit is 100.... turn it to 75.

Then from that point use the DMM to see whatyour voltage is... and adjust your gain accordingly.

hope you didn't pop the pico fuse..easy fix if ya did though

I know HOW to do it. But whenever I do it it's a ridiculously low voltage. like mV type of shit.

And how can you tell if it's a pico fuse? (And how is it fixed?) And if it was a fuse, wouldn't it just stop working completely rather than whinning?

Also, it does a big pop when I turn my car on / off... I'm starting to re-think it as bad grounds from my amps. But, what caused them to suddenly go bad...?

I was fidgeting with stuff earlier and I got the noise to go down, but it's not gone yet. I honestly am stumped.

By looking at the manual I think there is a subwoofer volume you can turn up, turn it up enough so that your HU volume can be turned down to whatever is the max volume you'd normally turn it up to and still be able to get the correct voltage from your amp by re-adjusting the gain on it.

As far as the popping sound, I guess try disconnecing your RCA's and see if it still makes the noise when turning car on/off to rule out the HU first. If it continues then verify your ground is good.

that amp is overrated.

yeah same for my pioneer with it on FLAT EQ, goes to vol 30, 3/4 set gain at vol 21, voltage reads on amp speaker outputs 0.7 with gain on minimum, i'm like wtf

so the my gain has to be maxed out to get the rated power of my amp and i get alternator noise bad, **** pioneer hu's:mad:
