why wouldn't i(assuming i can't) be able to use wheels from a FWD on a RWD car. reason i'm asking is that i bought new rims for the buick but really plan on getting a impala which would be RWD. hoping i'd be able to swap but if not would like to understand the differnces.

Depends upon the bolt pattern.

If both cars use the same bolt patterns you will be fine.

The link you provided shows all the bolt patterns available for that rim.
