I want to get paid to work on car audio. Best Buy seems like the best(simplest) way to do that. I also think it would feel good to make back the money I spent when I got my first system installed . I hear you have to work up to it and your have to be certified but idk seems like a good idea to me. idk how they'll handle with me going to school tho...

Any immediate thoughts? I've been getting some helpful opinions from the dome of late.

Just get certified, and talk to a few shop owners... You'll get a much better reputation that way. It would only cost like ~$100 to get MECP basic cert. Most of that is just to take the **** test.

**** man.. how you going to have time when your flippin cars
i had a feeling someone would bring that up. idk its just a thought, both of them are. i've got a lot on my mind.

+ id rather work at a local shop but the closest ones are in columbus, cincinnati and cleveland it feels like. i hate best buy but its convenient, and i wouldn't mind having that employee discount.

best buy svcks a$s IMO
While I mostly agree with this statement, I try not to overgeneralize. As a company, yes, they're overpriced and basically commit legal robbery. Most of their installers are also terrible. However, sometimes you find installers at big box stores that know their stuff. In my local area, there are no local shops, so if you want to install, BB is the only option. From what I've heard, my local store has one, maybe two, installers that have a clue. That's out of 10 installers, so indeed, it's a joke. I applied though. I just needed a job. Ended up with a sales position as there was no availability, but I do hope to creep my way into the install bay soon. Will I be proud to be a BB installer? Absolutely not, but at least I'll be doing something I like and hopefully giving BB's customers a better install for the money.

In a couple months I might very well be writing this exact same thing.

that might have been the best story i have ever read

'sigh'

I know that we aren't viewed as the 'best installers' because we are limited on what we are allowed to do. I will say thought that I would trust my car and my system with any of the installers at my store. I'm not even MECP certified but it they need help doing something basic I'll drop in and help get things done.

Heck, most of the installers I work with know more than I do...but like three of them have been Best Buy installers for 10+ years now. They're no joke. At my store you have to be MECP Advanced certified to even do an install.

and 10 INSTALLERS?!?! Thats nuts, we have like 5, with 2 main ones and 3 that come in on random nights and weekends. I see no need for 10.

I install my own shit.

Rule #1. You want it done right, do it yourself.

Thus endeth the lesson for today.
