I have recently upgraded my whole car audio system with new head unit, speakers, subs and amp. However, I continue to be frustrated by the issues I'm having with my head unit (Fusion CA-ML600), the most pressing of which is that, every week or so, the head unit completely resets to factory settings, forgetting all my radio stations and EQ's.
Now I am sure this isn't an issue with wrongly connected +12V switched and +12V constant wires because 1. I checked my car (nissan sentra 89)'s wiring schematics and 2. it only resets every now and again.
Now, this doesn't ever seem to occur when I start the car's engine. Rather, it only seems to occur when I turn the key to 'accessory' in order to use the stereo. The head remains switched off rather than turning on automatically, and after I switch it on, it asks me to program in the region settings again. Again, not every time, only every 20 starts or so.
This only seems to ever happen when the car has been off for a matter of hours.
Is this an issue with my battery? I have checked the cells and they are full and healthy looking, plus my DMM readings indicate a nominal voltage of 12.6v from where I grounded my amp. I would assume my battery is dying if the head consistently reset when it was cold or when I started the engine. So is there a simple wiring fix, or if not, is there a safe way I can wire a 12v battery or capacitor to keep the head alive?
