The 7998 is the Phantom Face unit that folds into itself. The faceplate itself folds out to about a din and a half where as the 9835 is just a single DIN unit.

The 9835 can change illuminations to about any combination you want. As far as I know the 7998 cannot change illuminations (which is weird because it turns red when you modify settings)

The 9835 has VDrive pre-amp output technology where as the 7998 requires amps to work... there are no pre-amp outputs.

The 9835 and the 7998 have the same biolite technology.

Pretty much the same.... just different.
