ok, I've got 2 10" Q Power subs right now off a weak *** Sony amp. I got jacked and had to have something quick. Anyway, I'm looking at getting either a JL 12 W7 or a JL 12 W6v2 off of a JL 500/1. They will be given the 500/1 in a 2-2.5 cu ft. ported box tuned to around 32-34 htz. My question is will this setup get loud, and is it worth it to spend the extra money on a W7. I've heard the W6 and they are awesome. Never had any experience w/ a W7 tho. Please Help!!!

I'm looking to get a jl 12w6v2 soon, so I'll let you know what I think. I'm going from 2 12's to just 1.. but I'm looking just for SQ now, not spl anymore.

From what I've heard though, the w6 is better at sound quality than the w7 is, with the w7 being more spl oriented.

ok, one more question. For those w/ a one sub setup. I've always had 2 or more subs. Will I be happy w/ the spl I get from a single sub setup? In my experiences, the more subs, doesn't necessarly mean more bass/spl. I know that the W6v2 sounds amazing, but will it put out enough spl. I drive a 95 eclipse, 100 sq.ft. of Dynamat, and it's going into the box mentioned at the top run off a JL 500/1.

I would say that the single W6 will not be enough. I would go with the W7 in a ported box and it should have plenty of output especially in a car that size. It is always better to have more bass than not enough because you can always turn it down.

so then it's definalty worth the money for the W7 then? I've heard mixed reviews about that sub. I've heard that it's awesome, but that it sounds kinda strange. I've heard that the W6 is a much better sub, and still gets really loud.

I think you'll be starving the Dub7 with only a 500/1, IMO. The Dub6 would like that much better.
I think that Jeffy is right, not to say it would not be loud but you could get more out of it with an amp that does around 800 to 1000 watts. This amp would have to be able to produce this at 3ohms. Like these below....if you already have the JL 500/1 then try it and see how you like it.

ok, well I've already got the 500/1, I've heard that JL makes some of the cleanest power amps avaliable. What do you think of a Memphis 1000D amp to push the W7? Should I stick w/ the 500/1, or go w/ the Memphis.

I've come across a helluva deal on one, for like $350. If that would be a better choice, I could always sell the JL, and get the Memphis. Or would I be better off just choosing a different sub?

I've got no personal experience w/ RE, Image Dynamics, or any of the other "not mainline" subs on the market today. Not because I'm brand loyal, but just never been exposed to them. But I am open for suggestion. Let me know, I've already got the 500/1, but could sell it if need be. I'm still looking for awesome SQ w/ quite a bit of SPL, maybe I just want the world! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

here's another brain buster for yall. What if I just went w/ a 10W7 instead of a 12? Would the 500/1 be enough power for it? Would it get pretty loud and still sound clean? Just a thought, maybe I'm going the wrong way w/ this one.

^ He said he was stepping away from SPL and towards SQ.

As far as single sub setups, my most memorable was an RE SE 15; It had a very rich sound, was my favorite setup. It wasn't knock-your-doors-off loud, but it was enough to shut down the skeptics.

I think a single sub will be fine if you truly want to go for quality.

out of the JL subs mentioned i would stick with the 10w7... good SQ and would get plenty loud. single subs always sounded good in the 96 eclipse i had. need help with a box design??? pm, i'll help you for FREE //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.

ok, I think I may stick w/ the 10W7, I've ran the Kicker L7s before, and they were loud as hell, but I just want to fill my low end pretty well. I've heard that the W7 will get loud as hell, and sound good. So I think I'll just stick w/ a 10 W7 and see where it takes me

i just sold my 12w6v2 2 days ago in a sealed enclosure. i thought it was real nice and real loud when i had it. bought a 10w7 in a spec JL ported box. oh my. its real louder and sounds real clean. im only powering about 600-650 watts to it with my mono amp so yeah. i think your 500/1 with the w7 will sound nice.
