Ok well my friend has a 97 m3 with the stock amplifier built in and is running the CDA-9886 and then two JL subs with a pioneer 1000W Mono channel amp.

Well he was coming up his driveway and he said his deck started to flicker and then it started smoking so he turned the car off, was parked by now, then he figured his deck was fried so he took it out and threw in, i think, a CDA-9874 or something close to that. Well turns out nothing in his car (speakers, subs, amp, deck) will turn on anymore.

I was wondering if anybody could help us out here. we figured its something like a power surge or something? But we arent sure. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Thanks!

Is this kinda like why you bypasss the factory amp in the 7th gen celica's with the premium sound?

How exactly would he go about fixing this guys? I know he would have to bypass the amp but how about the other problems? Amp, subs, speakers?

can't be running a stock amp with other audio componenets
his shitz if fuxores
sounds like current back fed from your factory amp to the cd player. the factory amp should have been disconnected.
you are both incorrect BMW factory amplifiers are easily interfaced with...they work as four regular speakers do all you have to do is turn it on

to the OP check the vehicles fuses....iirc they are in the glove box if you open it and look up....if those are ok there is likely a wiring problem with the deck....the deck essentially controls the turning on of everything else in the car.....if you get the deck to turn on and none of the speakers play check them at the amplifier....the amplifier is in the rear driver side of the trunk pull back the carpet and you will see it.....there will be two plugs and input and an output you will tell the diff between the two by the input having a heavy guage red and brown wire as well as an untwisted white wire. As for the other plug anything twisted is a speaker wire.....the yellows are the driver side and the blues are the passenger side.

The thing is he had the 9886 in.. it blew then he threw in another deck (different harness and everything) and it still wont turn on.. nothing at all turns on. He hasnt had time to check his factory amp but ill have him do that. Thanks!!
