Friend to buy a corvette

i wouldn't spend that much on such an old vehicle unless it's really clean and well maintained. it's past it's trouble free era of it's life and from this point on you will start taking care of all little things that start to arise from it's age and mileage. $15-20k will get a brand new vehicle these days with a nice warranty and great financing options, so keep that in mind.

I had the thought that a 1999 Corvette will probably be better maintained than a 2007/6 (insert random sedan here), just because of the people who buy them.
This is partly true, but is very dependant on the owner and his/her driving habits. Also how the miles were put on (highway vs. stop + go). My old auto teacher drove a 1995 Vette w/ 250k+ on the clock and it was all highway. Still runs almost like brand new without any major replacements(engine, ******, suspension).

See if they have a report of all the prior work done to the car.

Well, considering it being a 99 it will have the LS1. As long as it was properly maintained, that motor still has a lot of life left in it.

As long as everything else checks out, it should be a good reliable vehicle for that price.

wait a minute.. does you dad race them/ or used to?
no, but I do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

My restored 86 see's the drag strip more then the highway these days, even with 100k+ on the odometer and stock engine it still pulls low 9's in the 1/8th mile.

Vettes are fun, but I donno if Id like one for a DD unless the roads you drive are SILKY smooth

pretty nice carpool ride
most of the people on this board couldnt afford a vette, so they hate
my civic cost more than that when i bought it, fyi 15,500 isnt that much when ur talking a nice, reliable car. in case you didnt read, which you probably didnt, were not talking about a brand new 60k dollar one chief.
