Free Air Subwoofers? Please explain.

Ib install? Tell me more please. I don't need it competition loud, I just want enough bass. Right now I'm running 2 12 SAs at 1ohn with a MMATS m1400.1d. It sounds good but toooooo much rattle everywhere. The rear deck rattles but since stopped since I removed the rear factory sub. Also the heat sheilds in the rear bumper sound rediculus.I just feel I will never get the clarity I had in my old truck with this Mercedes.
What makes you think the rattles will be better with an IB install? If you mount the subs to your rear deck it'll rattle like a mofo.

IB is a mixed bag - the big deal is no box needed. They take less power and can hit xmax mechanical limits if you're not careful. Not as loud as sealed, and not as defined. They tend to be "sloppy" or "muddy" sounding, and should be driven Class AB for best control. You need to seal the front/back and that often means messing with your car's air circulation system. On the plus side, they'll play lower than sealed - I recall some Image Dynamics 10's that would go down to 10 hz IB.

And no, not all subs can go IB you need to check the specs.

sundown its coming out with the ltib-15 but you would have to put in the order says its not for mass production. i trust anything coming from sundown. since this isnt out yet your taking a chance but i doubt youll be unhappy with it on the mmats.

Well, the rear deck rattles just cuz it does at the moment. I plan to matt it and button it all down once I pop the sub in. The original fac sub is a 12 so it should drop right in with minimal mod.

Why don't you tell all the others that don't like Ib to get out too because I'm not the only one saying this. I've tried Ib in a Lexus I had, and didn't like it until I went with a real sealed box. I've also installed some other Ib setups and heard a lot of them.

Most peopel who dont' like IB setups had a bad install, at least if they preferred a sealed box to an IB install. Sealed and IB are really no different, other than the IB setup has a MUCH bigger box so it'll play louder down low on less power than the sealed box. For a daily setup it's a pretty good option as long as the car lends itself to sealing off your rear shelf/trunk area. It does cut down on rattles some since the woofers aren't loading off your taillight area and since the woofers fire straight into the cabin
