Ben did this to 'prove a point' about the issue of the flat cones breaking...

This is a 15A, with a 15 SP, 12A and 8A on top of it...

All the weight is displaced right in the center...on the piston. IMO, this prooves nothing...and I'm an eD faithful.

Put the weight about another 2 inches over and see what happens

Yeah, I know- but it's rather hard to get that much pressure on a concave sub- i'll all fall to the middle...

The fact of the matter is under regular use all the weight is placed directly in the center of the cone. So what Ben is proving is that under regular usage the cone will not just break. Now if user error occurs and weight is unevenly distributed on the cone it might break but he is showing how much abuse it can take under regular usage.

Did he happen to hook it up and play it after he put all that weight on it? People have complained about a grinding noise after they push in on the sub and then play it.

for people that push the subs in while it's playing, they deserve it. Almost all subs that I know has a grinding noise when the cones are pushed in by hand (misalignment I guess). Also, won't concave cones get ripped if that kind of weight was off 20%?

Oh Dan, Ben posted a few after that, saying he played an 8" with a JL sub on top of it. It mangled the suspension but the cone was fine.

16.5. The old xxx's didnt have flat cone and they did the same thing to it.

they are crazy, i have one....it's in .3cubes sealed on a jbl600.1 (i am VERY easy on the gains) soon i'm gonna build the ported box to ED's specs. It is most def. WANG for an 8" sub. peace

it says the 8a has a mounting depth of 128 mm.

What does that convert to in inches
