Four 8's vs. One 15

I'm not sure where the '15 will get lower' thing is coming from, but this is not accurate.

If the calculations confirm that four 8" subs can/will sweep more air than a single 15", you have the capability of producing more SPL at the same low frequency that the larger sub could do. Provided you can create an enclosure to allow the lows for your 8" subs, this is a win-win situation.

Not only that but you get more awe factor...

Yup, all sizes of subs can play the same notes. The only reason a larger sub plays lows with more authority is because it is moving more air, and can therefore play louder at all frequencies. But if a collection of small woofers (the four 8s) moves more air than a large woofer (the 15), the smaller woofers will play the lows with more authority than the single large woofer.

Ergo, get the 8s, because they will look cooler, and will play all frequencies with more authority. As long as they are installed correctly.

I guess i learned something new. If the low end will be equal to the 15 then i'll go with the 8's because i will get an awe factor and i'll get satisfaction of beating people with 15's and 12's. Now i'm leaning towards getting the 8's.

i used to have 8 true bass 8's in a ported enclosure, it was extremely loud between 40-50hz, but below 40 it lacked authority, just my experience though

Well most music is in that range anyways. This will strictly be a daily driver so it should do well in this area.

I got 2 RE8's in a ported box, don't remember the cuft. but its tuned to 35 hz...they really hit loud and hard with only 300 watts to them.

heres a setup my friend made a few yrs ago for 4 L78's(the first gen square subs) in a 4th order bandpass ported thru the armrest. he had a fosgate bd1500 on all 4 and it was in a bmw 3series converable...it was really loud for a convertable

Im thinking the 8's would be nice. I've heard of people still getting 8's to drop low and play well. And i think an 8" setup would be cool cuz i could do the box different ways. What size box should i run? Stratus said 2.5 @ 40hz

Stratus knows his shit on these 8's and I personally talked to him before on these 8's and he said they performed best at 40hz

word i have a pair of re 8" in a sealed box around .7 cu.ft. getting around 150w+ each and they get things moving pretty good.

Back a few years ago when I had my 15'' HC... I switched to 4 RE8s and the 8s got noticeably louder than the 15. It was tuned higher, but they still hit very low and were very very clean. You can save weight, and space with 4 8's as well.
