Fosgate's VAST technology? Increases cone area 25%

Was looking at the new P3 and read that there new VAST tech. to increase surface cone area up to 25%. Anyone seen this? Wondering if the new p3's are worth getting

marketing, cone area is more then just the diameter of the cone itself.

The actual piston is including half of the surround as well.

It is not a 25% increase. They did lie but not by as much as you probably think. That is the radius in millimeters.

133mm = 5.23622 inches

120mm = 4.72440 inches

The area of a cone with 133mm radius is 86.136 square inches.

The area of a cone with 120mm radius is 70.120 square inches.

So you can see that it increased the cone area by about 19%.

Does this actually translate to ANYTHING good at all? I honestly don't know but I highly doubt it.

whats funny is infinity has been doing that for years. Pioneer has done something similar as well.

Fosgate has been ripping people off a ton lately.

here is a pic of some i put in not to long ago, i know i had a side by side pic somewhere but i cant find it when you hold the new p3 and the old one (2007 edition) side by side you can really see the difference in both the size, and shape of the cone.

long story short if your decision is between the new, or older fosgate p3 i would choose the new one hands down, it really does impress when set up right.

didnt read under pic, have you heard a pair of dcons by chance you could compare them too? It would cost me about the same of a pair of either, but i could get the old school punches for about 100bucks less. I just like new stuff honestly

how did u like thoughs new p3's? Could you tell a differnace in sound between the models?

I think so, i have actually replaced just the 2007s with the new ones same amp, enclosure, hu, electrical etc... and it was noticeably louder, and IMO sounded much better....... the thing i like most about the new ones is how "hard" and quick they can hit on rock songs.

The dustcap looks similar.

the entire design is a rip off of the legatia se's they just changed the lok slightly enough so Scott could sue them.

Wouldn't choose them over any "good" sub though, such as the dcon and old school fosgate stuff that you mentioned earlier. most of the new fosgate stuff is better than it was 5 years or so ago until recently but still not great. I've installed tons of these newer P3's, P2's, and prime subs and they are all the same generic sounding crap.
