Wheres the logic in what you just said?
Cylinders have nothing to do with power. The V8 was only like 235 horses and only came in automatic. The Yamaha V6's had around 240 from th factory and weighed less, not to mention most were manual until 1993. They broke down alot. I replaced clutch twice, power steering pump and various other things. Plus every part was twice as much as regular Taurus parts and harder to come by. Car just wasnt built to handle the power.

The V8 Taurus SHO is also prone to cracking cams...welding the cams is a popular mod on them. They are not nearly as fast as the v6 sho's and they were ONLY automatic ******'s. They were decent cars though as far as handling and ride/comfort go for a Tore-***. There are a handfull of 300-400+ V6 sho's out there too.

The cams do not infact crack. The sprocket is not welded onto the cam, its "swedged" on, and eventual spins free. Its an interference engine, so when this happens, metal meets metal and its not a pretty outcome.

89 was the lightest, fastest year. all mtx models from 89-95 were rated closer to 220 HP and 200 ft/lbs of torque, 93-95atx were rated at 220HP and 220 ft/lb of torque or so. Not bad cars, respond well to suspension mods, however, expensive to fix.

yamaha built those motors for ford, pretty quick cars.
The 89-95 had a Yamaha designed, developed, and built V6. The V8 was done by Ford. It's a Duratec 2.5 V6, with 2 cylinders added. Don't believe me, then do some research and do the math.

theres a kid that plays at the paintball field i play at. he has a green one. i was like "nice SHO" and hes like "huh" im like "i like your car" and he was just like "why its a piece of shit taurus...?" so i told him i would buy it off him. he said he had to talk to his dad. this was 2 weeks ago. funny you post this up. his dad has to know what it is. but if he dosnt then maybe i can get this at a good price...
Gen I and II SHOs for for $1000 and less all the time. Check out fordbastards.org. There's plenty of really nice ones under $2k.

be nice if you could get it for a regular taurus price:laugh://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif
There's no difference in price. The SHO is much nicer, but also much more costly to own. A regular Taurus will usually carry a higher resale value, to be quite honest.

Not sure if any of you knew, but their is a slight chance ford may bring it back... Would be nice to see something of that nature, but dont get your hopes up..

The 'new SHO' has been a concept for years. Years ago, the concept started as a car called simply the '427'. Named for the engine, 427 Cobra Jet, RWD, 500+hp w/o boost. Then gas got pricey. They ended up turning the concept into a FWD sedan, the Five Hundred. The SHO was supposed to be a slightly modified Five Hundred chassis, with a 3.5l Duratec V6, compared to the regular 3.0 V6 that was in the Five Hundred. Instead they made the 3.5 standard, and renamed it the 'Taurus' for purposes of familiarity and recognition. In all honesty, the Five Hundred was a redesigned, renamed Taurus, to begin with. Most people think the Fusion replaced the Taurus, and it did in the sense that it fills the midsize gap in the line-up left by removing the Taurus. But, the Five Hundred shares the some blood with the Taurus, the Fusion is a whole new car. The SHO concept is now supposed to be a 4.4l V8 from the Volvo XC90, which a complete Yamaha engine, or a TT 3.5 Duratec. Either way, with Ford financial status, and the economy the way it is, a FWD sports sedan is the last thing Ford will be making. It started as a 2002 concept and is now a 2009 concept, last I checked.

And as for the 3.4 V8, it's a great engine, to the right owner. With good maintenance, and the camshafts welded, it's a good solid engine. The transmission is the real weak spots. It's a sluggish-by-design 4-speed, and really doesn't allow the motor to shine when it's at it's peak. A 30 punch typical puts you right at the bottom of second gear, with the computer preventing a downshift to 2nd. So, from ~30mph, if you hit the gas, say to get on the freeway, you don't get the response you should, because you're starting at about 1500 rpm, trying to accelerate. It's still faster than many comparable cars, but not near as good as it could have been. The Gen Is and IIs, despite the 15 less hp, are substantially faster. Of course, Gen I and II SHOs are much faster than the numbers tell. That 220hp is distributed VERY well, and with a good driver, a well maintained 5-speed Gen I/II is capable of pulling a 350Z, G35, or S2K from a 60 punch. I own 2 of them, one a former DD, now a parts car because of some drunken fvcktard, the other in my driveway, far from stock.

There's more than a handful. But there are a 'handful' of 500+hp SHOs, with a few breaking the 660whp barrier. I'm in the process of gathering parts to put a built 3.3 stroker SHO engine into something a lot smaller, lighter, and RWD, with a T-5, and a yet undetermined differential.

The cams do not infact crack. The sprocket is not welded onto the cam, its "swedged" on, and eventual spins free. Its an interference engine, so when this happens, metal meets metal and its not a pretty outcome.

This is a rare breed of information about SHOs. The correct kind... or almost correct. The 89 is the lightest, fastest year, but also lacks many amenities, as well as airbags and ABS, hence the lighter weight. The MTX SHOs were a 3.0 with 220/200 hp/tq, and the ATX was a 3.2 with 220/215 hp/tq.

As far as suspension mods go, they do respond well, at least for strut tension rod suspension. There's development underway to fit a Gen III subframe to the Gen I/II with in an LCA style setup, and a much lighter, stronger subframe. THEN, and only then, will we see what the car is capable of. Personally, I couldn't give a rat's *** about the car itself. It's a piece of shit. The motor on the other hand, is every bit as good, and believed by those in the know, to be better than the 2JZ, SR-series, RB-series, and just about everything else to come out of Japan. But, because of their poor choice of platform, nothing was ever done in the earlier years of the SHO, leaving it to fall to the back of the pack. It's not very often that someone makes a FWD sedan that outruns, out handles, and out brakes the BMW 5-series of the same era. And even these days, with a good stiff suspension, good tires, and a 13.6" brake upgrade, can out-brake brand new Porches.

Interesting..

quote-

For the last few weeks, the internet has been abuzz with rumors about the possible return of a performance-oriented Ford Taurus for the 2010 model year, when the large sedan will receive a major redesign. So, is a hotter version of the 2010 Taurus really coming?

SHO enough.

First things first. You may not actually see the return of the "SHO" nameplate. Sources indicate to us that Ford may very well take a cue from across the pond and adorn the sedan with an "ST" badge.

The regular 2010 Taurus that Alan Mulally said they "should have made originally," is confirmed to debut at NAIAS 2009 and on sale a few months later. We feel pretty confident that the ST model will also debut in Detroit. However with NAIAS more than half a year away, things could certainly change. We wouldn't be shocked to see the ST model held over to debut at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show.

When the ST does debut, it's going to be packing Ford's new 3.5-liter, twin turbo, V6 motor. Previously known as the "Twin Force" motor, Ford has now re-branded it with the much more sedate "EcoBoost" name. Even with its less aggressive name, this forced-induction V6 will be tuned to produce 350 horsepower. This will put the Taurus in a heated battle with Chrysler's 340hp 300C, and will far exceed Chevy's 303hp Impala SS, if falling a little short of the Pontiac G8 GT's 361hp. We've been told to expect a zero to 60 time in the low-to-mid 6-second range.

Suspension-wise, the ST will feature a sport tuned version of Ford's new SR1 (Shock Ratio 1) suspension. The SR1 setup is a new independent rear suspension that will debut on Lincoln's MKS. Inside sources tell us not to expect huge hood scoops and massive spoilers. Rather, the ST will continue its role as a "sleeper," rolling on 20s and sporting a few moderate chrome accents in the front and rear fascia.

At the factory, Ford will be hoping for a return to the cult following that the SHO enjoyed in the '90s. Roughly 12-15% of the 2010 Tauruses that come down the production line will wear ST badges.

The last major nugget we hear about the ST concerns the drive wheels. If you're like us, 350hp to the front wheels sounds like a supremely bad idea. We're talking Crystal Pepsi bad. Instead of having you spin your tires through first and second gear, the ST looks ready to come with an AWD setup only. If not, we anticipate a fresh hole in the ozone layer solely from Taurus ST tire smoke.

Look for the Taurus ST to be available by next summer.

A buddy of mine just got a 89 sho. Once he puts on this new clutch, we are going to race. Should be interesting.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
