I bought a 2006 Ford Freestyle and I'm really wanting to ditch the factory radio and get an upgrade. I'm not 100% sure on what I want yet, but since the car has a factory rear DVD entertainment center, I figured I should look into it before buying anything, and I'm glad I did.
Apparently if you replace the factory radio, the rear DVD just stops working. I've checked around on forums and it appears the only solution is to buy an adapter (PIE FRD04-DVD). They call this a "DVD Keeper", and apparently it retains the power/audio to the player. I'm having a hard time finding this adapter anywhere for under $100.00, and that puts a damper on things.
It looks like a lot of people are interested in retaining the DVD audio over the car stereo feature... we NEVER use this, our kid uses the RF headphones. Is there any way that I can get around having to purchase the DVD keeper and be able to continue to power on the rear DVD system when the car starts? As long as it powers on, video works, and the RF headphones work, we'll all be happy.
Thanks for any input anyone is able to offer.
