So, my cousin has an 04 mustang with the Mach Audio system factory installed. Well, one of the midbasses blew a few months ago and he had it replaced for free...well a few weeks after that we noticed it was blown again, so we said screw it and took it out, noticed it was 4 ohms and said sweet...so we went out and got a set of alpine 5x7s...
well, we get to install them today, and didnt really look at either speakers while removing them, and just put in the alpines. Well, when the bass kicks in heavy...they shut off...and we were really confused because we THOUGHT 4 ohm speakers would be fine. So we think, maybe the stock amp is being weird because we disconnected the tweets (like the alpine box said to), so we reconnect those...same thing. So we thought the tinsels might be hitting metal...nope...then we decide to try and figure out the problem...we unhook one speaker...the other works fine, so we have one good speaker...right? Nope, we did the same thing with the other speaker...it worked too, so we had no idea what was going on.......until i busted out my DMM to check the resistance of both the alpine, and the "stock" speaker....both 4 ohm...wtf? so....we decide that we might want to run an different amp to the alpines.........and start to pack up....when we were doing this though...we noticed that the stock speakers were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! the stupid ford dealership decided that a 25W 4 ohm speaker would work wonderfully with a 130 watt 6 ohm speaker.....great... so now that we put two 4 ohm speakers on it, we're pretty sure the amp has been fried for both the midbasses, and somehow the tweeters....so hopefully the warranty will still be covered and we can get it replaced tomorrow....
