my friend just traded his crx for a 88 IROC with the 305 and auto tranny, well after about 50ft driving down the road, a rod blew right through the oil pan. So the guy gave him a 327 and said everything should bolt right up. Well after 2 days of tearing apart the 305, the manifold doesn't fit the 327. So we call the guy up and after 10mins he decides to drop off a manifold for the 327. So are plan is to use the 305 heads and hope everything else bolts up. So if u have worked with these motors, let me know if theres anything else we should do. thanks

wow the same exact thing happened to me in my suburban yesterday....and yes..im still crying.

its a good thing you got a 327 because that 305 they used was a piece. but no, im a ford guy so i dont know enough info to help you out.

Dido, im a ford guy, I dont know enough about chevy's to help, go on a chevy website to find out an answer, not a car audio forum..

Um, note that chevy did not make a 327 in the late 80's for the Camaro, unless Canada found a few of them or something... This could be dangerous.

Plus, whenever I hear about motor rebuilds involving performance of any kind, heads from a smaller motor do not go on bigger motors, it's vice versa.

What, are the 327 heads bad???

All the small block heads will bolt on to all the small blocks. However, once you figure in the taller deck height of the 350, you will find the intake manifold will no longer fit. Also, depending on the head and/or intake, the ports may not be identical. The 327 can be made by a combination bore/stroke on the 305, or a destroke on the 350. There are just too many variables, hence the need for more info.

the 327 came out of a 66 corvette. The reason why where putting the 305 heads on it is cause none of the pulleys bolt up to the 327 heads...get what i mean there... so when we put the 305 heads on, everything bolts right up. So will putting 305 heads on a 327 make it weaker, blow up or what will happen. Thanks. let me know what else u need

Well, there are a lot of probels you can have here. First off is compression ratio. You could also have interference with the valves and the pistons. Also, that being a 66 casting, it is not a roller block and will not work with the existing valvetrain. You are best off taking the thing to a professional and having the work done for you. I personally would sell the 327 and have the old motor machined and rebuilt. There are just so many things that could go wrong here if you don't know exactly what you are doing and what parts you are working with.
