For those interested in sidearms at all...

So what type of .40 rounds do you use?

Im still on the fence between 165 & 180 grain. I personally carry Winchester Ranger (same as local LE ammo) only reason is incase something happens, its 1 less thing for the lawyers to try to dissect //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Nice find that sig. They shoot quite smoothly compared to some other .40s. I wouldnt worry about .357 overpenetration either (so long as you're using hollow points), the lighter grain round should penetrate about the same as a heavier .40. The main advantage of the .357 IMO is the fact that they have less chance of having feeing problems due to the necked down design.

Id worry about overpenetration if it was a hot-loaded 10mm, but not a .357.

Federal's 180gr HydraShoks is what is in it currently (as is my Ruger .40 sitting forlornly in my bedroom like a forgotten friend)

I tend to stick with the HydraShoks or Remington's Golden Sabers also in a 180gr.

I really do not care about the ongoing debate about ammunition effectiveness Vs. situationally-based power necessity.

I'll never unholster it unless the upcoming shot(s) is/are completely, 110% justified so I just buy the most powerful, proven ammo available commercially.

The day I got the P229 the Federals were several dollars a box cheaper than the Remingtons so I went that route - the 1 box they threw in with the gun + 2 more I bought on top of the first one.

Well of course. 100% agreed.

I wouldnt unholster either, and if I have to there is a 100% chance things arnt going to turn out too well for someone. It im forced to unholster, its getting used.

That being said, I still hope it'll never come to that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif as to the debate between ammo, we all know shot placement is what counts more then anything. I was just saying I wouldnt worry about .357 having overpenetration issues. The Rangers I just found a good deal on (bulk) and the fact that its also LE ammo was appealing to me incase legal reasons ever come up.

If I cared about pure power, id go with hotloads. (doubletapp, etc.) either that or carry a .500 magnum //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Ooo nice sig! I've always wanted one! Personally I carry a Glock 19 IWB. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Oops for got to mention I use Speer Gold Dots!

hydrashoks are actually pretty outdated. the golden sabres aren't quite as bad, the newer federal premium ammo owns the old hydrashok in ballistics testing, i think they just keep the hydra around because the name is such a big seller.

myself, i carry speer gold dots in my hk p2000 9mm.

nice rig. i had a P220 in .45, boy i wish i still had that. one of the best shooting firearms i've ever had. the only one better is a browning .22 that my dad game me some time ago, i can't remeber the model # right off the top of my head. allthough i couldn't stand the stock grip on the 220, had to change it with a aftermarket grip.

Personally I am fond of the hydrashoks, have been carrying them in my p89 and my wife even uses them in her .380.

nice sig btw Prowler, youwill not be unsatisfied by it I promise.

I feel ya, man. Should I ever be forced into that proverbial corner and have no choice but to come out biting then the day is going to end badly for the other guy should I have anything to say about it. I'm an Army brat so gun safety/respect was something ingrained into us almost from birth. A handgun was originally invented for a single, lone purpose ~ to kill another human being. Not an endeavor to be undertaken lightly, to be certain...

Like mentioned previously - I've worked out this 229 sufficiently to where I am consistently making sub-2" groupings on 3-shot bursts at both 25 and 50 yards. This Sig is a very different animal as compared to my Rugers and consequently owns a considerably different set of mannerisms that I had to learn and become comfortable with before I could approach any sort of real proficiency with it. Now that I've worked out the interaction between man and weapon, however? Well, let's just say it would be a poor judgement call for anyone to make me genuinely fear for my life...

This isn't to say I no longer enjoy my Rugers as it would be far from the truth to make such a statement. But I think a safe generalization would be to say that this Sig is simply a different class of firearm.

True that. But - akin to my commentary regarding the .44 Mag....how often is it that you go a'hunting tanks? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gifOtherwise I cannot see the need or even the reasoning behind carrying so much weapon for an everyday carry piece! .500 Mag.....man that's a heckuva lotta gun!!!

I'm not a fan of the OEM composite grips on this 229 either. I'm looking into a pair of Hogues soon....
