R.I.P. Gossamer!!
I recently bought myself a new one.

I've owned more than a few S&Ws, Colts, and a ton of Tauruses through the years. I've also owned (and do own) several Rugers of varying models/calibers and they remain a big-time fave of mine for multiple reasons. Matter of fact until recently every handgun I own currently is a Ruger. (Security Six, 2 each Super Blackhawks and Super Redhawks, Single Six, Super Six, 10/22, P90, P94, and a P97DC ~ that last being my carry piece of choice until last week.)

I've been doing fairly well with this cab thing that I've just recently gone back to doing and I unexpectedly had the means to do what I've been wanting to do - get a new pistol. For the gun guys reading this - you'll understand that. For the non-enthusiasts just plain wanting a new gun might be a bit of a foreign concept.

Anyway - MSRP on this latest one is $839.

I located one in a local sporting goods place marked at $700.

I talked 'em down to $535 + a box of 180gr Hydra-Shoks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

Not a terrible deal, I don't think.

Oh, yeah.

What'd I buy?

I bought it simply because I like the way it felt in my hand coupled with Sig's inarguable reputation for manufacturing quality firearms.

After a bit of research I've found that this particular model of .40 is the weapon of choice for multiple gov't agencies. If it's good enough for Uncle Sam to spend my tax dollars on to outfit various agents of differing types then it must be a decent piece. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

If I were to buy an optional barrel it will also shoot .357 Sig rounds using the same magazines that are with it currently.

The only advantage that the .357 Sig round has over the .40 S&W it is currently chambered for it muzzle velocity.

Higher fps @ the barrel after a certain point can lead to overpenetration which I have no desire for. Should I ever be in the unfortunate situation where I have to use it all I want to do is stop the person doing whatever it is that caused me to unholster it. Not them + the three people behind them who did nothing at all. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I reckon I'll just stick with the .40 and save my money.

Neat feature being able to do either one, though.

i like my ruger.
my 44 magnum is my favorite... and my 1911 colt 45 is close behind that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
I like my .44 Mag as well. It's heaps of fun. When you've got the stopping force of a Mack truck what's not to like?

Oh, yeah: the fact that mine has an 8 3/4" barrel making it take seven forevers to drag it out of its holster. Not generally my preference in a zero-distance personal defense scenario.

Couple that with the fact that very seldom will there be an occasion where use of a lesser caliber wouldn't be far more appropriate than blasting away with a hand cannon the .44 Mag just doesn't make for a great everyday carry piece.

nice, that is on my list for my a cc
After running about 400 rounds through it thus far and adjusting the stock sights (which I hate with a passion and will be replacing soon with a set of three-dots) as best I can I've gotten where I consistently make 2" or less groups on 3-shot bursts at both 25 and 50 yards.

Plenty good enough to stop Johnny Badguy from doing whatever he may have been doing, methinks.

Not ignoring you Darkness //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cuddle.gif.bd1b29c179c0482f8313dbd790b74c94.gif

Where have I been?

Working 16hr+ days in the cab, my friend.

Haven't even had (read that as :"made") the time to pull my old sub out and put the TDX in to see what's what. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

But I'm making good $$$ when taking into consideration what I'm doing isn't mentally taxing in the least - just potentially dangerous. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
