I have (3) JL 12w6v1's and they have foam surrounds. I am worried about the foam surrounds wearing out or getting damaged by the sun or cold. What hurts the foam surrounds on these JL subs?? I have heard that Sun damages them, but, i have tinted glass all around, except the front windshield and driver and pass. doors. i think its 13% tint all in back. Will the sun hurt my subs with this tint?? I am not over powering my subs, so dont have to worry about blowing the surrounds apart, i hope. Anything i can do to make them last longer??..thanks.

They're tougher than you think, I was screwing mine in, and had the screw going right above the bottom hole of the speaker, right in the surround, and had it going for a few seconds before I realized it. After freaking out and worrying about it, I didn't even put a nic in it.

Just keep the un away from them and they'll last longer than you think.

Jl audio spent plenty of time developing and testing their foam to endure the rigors of the car enviroment, as long as you dont have stuff rubbing or touching the foam it shoud last quite a while.

But, I mean I got these subs in 2000. You think they will last any longer?? Thats 8 years, they still look mint and sound very clean. They are mounted facing up and nothing rubbing on them. Only thing i can think that might hurt them would be the cold winter air. Then again, i drive my car and heat it up everyday.

You must be retarded posting this thread.

They will deteriorate over time as anything will that is subjected to extreme temp. changes etc. I say if you destroy them by "pushing them to the limit" constantly, you got your money's worth //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif If they "rot" they are pretty old //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif and you should have cranked them a little harder!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Seriously don't sweat it, they're fine
