FM Modulator 101's

i just got myself a PS2 installed in my suv. i wanted to keep the stock HU since i have a factory nav unit. the problem is, it did not have aux in jacks so i opted for the FM mod set up. my question(s) are:

generally speaking, in order to get the cleanest sound from the FM mod, does the station you choose have to have ZERO signal? is the rule, the more silent, the better signal?

also, which FM mod seems to work the best or at least have the cleanest sound? most of the shops around my area recomended the audiovox FMM100.

is a switchable FM mod better than the automatic ones?

is the sound level between radio and FM mod equal? (when you switch between the radio and the FM mod, does the sound level increase or decrease?) on mine, the radio is definately louder.

how do you get rid of excess noise?

im a newbie btw.

bump.... c'mon guys. all this knowledge and no help? ok just answer this...

if i had two channels to set my FM mod to, one was a clean strong signal and the other was kinda staticky... which one should i set as the frequency? i have a switch to turn on and off the antenna.

Units with switch selectable output frequncies tend to be more stable than ones with variable settings. I dunno what an automatic one is. Use a frequency that's got no station on it - just hiss. Disable the FM mute on the radio if possible to find a non-used frequency. The FM receiver will lock onto its signal when the mod is on. The signal strength sould be at least as high as a strong station.
