So I finally decided to get rid of some of my songs in Mp3 format and download the FLAC version and convert it to apple lossless. And holy sh*t the quality is out of this world. It makes a huge difference going from 320kbps to 1411kbps which is cd quality. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif But only problem is you run out of room so fast on your ipod //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif. Songs range anywhere from 25-50 mbs in apple lossless format. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Here is my system: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=384772

Im gonna try to post a video of my sound system. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Try using a better lossy format. M4P is your best option with ipod most of the time. If you can install something like Rockbox you can use Ogg/Vorbis. MP3 really is a terrible quality compression method in the grand scheme of things, but file size is an issue on portable players. What version of iPod do you have? IIRC Rockbox is compatible up with everything before iPod Classic/Touch.

Umm does those programs attempt to fill in the information that is lost when you convert cd to mp3? I dont see how sound quality is improved. Or did you delete your mp3s and re rip those cds to lossless?

Try 320kbps VBR. If you do and tell me you can actually hear a difference, you are a dirty rotten liar!
(With some types of music being an exception)

I download most of my lossless stuff, but there are places like HDTracks where you can download 24bit FLAC files, too.

Or just use Exact Audio Copy + a FLAC frontend program, and rip/encode FLAC from the original CDs.

what program do you use to get the FLAC or lossless files? Do you just download them though torrents? Or do you use a pay site? Also, the programs you said about ripping them from the original cds, are they available for macs? Thanks for the info!

i cant remember the last time i ripped a cd, but iTunes can import a cd in apple lossless format, but I like to use XLD which is really fast, and supports FLAC as well as apple lossless
