First time builder, for a 12 cvr in a truck.

Ok i have decided in order to get the size box i need it will need to be custom for my truck and this will be my first time to build a sub enclosure.

I will be getting a kicker cvr 12 inch 2 ohm sub and the minimum recommended enclosure is 1cuft.

Measurements from available room in my truck.

9" at base of box.

8" at top of box.

11.5" height.

21" long.

This comes out to 1.18cuft, without subtracting 3/4 mdf. And if i need bigger i can just keep making it longer to pass my middle console section and maybe into the other seat (i doubt that far i need, but just in case u want to know).

Questions:

1) What is the recommended box size for cvr 12, since kicker just states max/min.

2) Is this all i need to buy: MDF, wood glue, screws, maybe brackets, connection plate (w/e its called), and carpet?

3) Where do i get the carpet?

4) How far from my seat should the sub rubber end?

5) And if i get any polyfil, how much should i pop in, b/c i am worried about putting something that looks flamable to me, but im just a noob so w/e.

6) Any other comments you guys can help me with.

1. That box net might be too small. (subtract the wood and displacement of sub)

2. Maybe a clamp, depends on how you want to build it. something to fill gaps for uneven wood cuts.

3. You can get it online at partsexpress, or a fabric store, JoAnna's is where I got mine.

4. As longs as sub won't hit any material at excursion its all good. Besides that, if its too close to any material it might block/ hinder sound waves.

5. It won't flame don't worry.

6. Good luck

Yeah i figured out the net volume if i was to extend the box behind the middle seat, and it would come out to 1.28 net. I could get alot more i think if there was some way to get it higher then a 11.5 inch height. But there is my back plastic panel across the back right there.

Oh crap wait i just realized im an idiot. I HAVE to make it higher then 11.5. Im getting a 12 inch sub. /sigh well time to go figure more out.

I came up with .79 cu. ft. internal volume.

I was saying if i made the length 8 more inches.

I just made a mock up cardboard for my car and changed the height to 13.75 and had to lower the top depth to 7.

So now the dimensions are:

13.75" Height

9" Base depth

7" Top depth

29" long

So if i calculate this right its (13.75 - 1.5)x(8 - 1.5)x(29-1.5) = 2189 / 1728 = 1.267cuft.

I believe that is the right calculation using .75 mdf and i just averaged the front panel size instead of using a rectangle and triangle for simplicity.

Also does anyone see any issues with those measurements. For example front size and middle depth for the speaker. Its a 6 5/16 mount so the middle depth of 8 - .75 = 7.25 should be ok. And the front panel is about 14 - 1.5 = 12.5 inches. Is that cutting it too close for the 12 inch sub?

Yeah, that's right. You might be close with the magnet and the back of the box The CVR should sound great in 1.267 cu. ft.

Awesome.

One last thing, with my box being so long and extending to the middle seat, i will have the sub mounted probably about 2/3 thru the box instead of 1/2, im guessing this really wont matter, but anyone know if it will sound odd?

Shouldn't sound odd because it is kinda elongated. Sealed is sealed. Besides being longer like that gives ya a nice place to mount your amp on the box unless you have other plans for that. Maybe later on down the road build a second one of these boxes and add another CVR:naughty:

Oh yea and post pics of your build, build logs of any kind are always good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
