First Credit Card

I'm 24 and don't have a credit card (not counting Zales card for paid-off engagement ring). I've decided to go ahead and apply for one because I'm getting to the point where I always have to take money out of the bank when I make large purchases and it's just aggravating. I figure a good CC will be beneficial to me in the long run anyway.

Any you guys suggest going with? I like AE, & Chase as my first choices. Getting approved shouldn't be a problem. I have a 772 credit score, have always paid payments on time for car, and various other things. Have rented and paid all bills on time. Owned a car and paid it on time. Etc, etc.

Dont do AE(american express?) they **** on fees

I use Amex via CitiBank.

You get the benefits of Amex with the cashback that citi offers.

Use this only if you plan on paying your balance at the end of the month. I have no idea what the interest rate is because I do not pay it.

I looked into them all last year, and used this site to get my info. It's just been a while since I've looked into them. Seems like at the time Chase was the best looking one.

Oh, I don't think Student is for me. That's for people trying to establish credit and usually have higher interest rates than a regular one.

Only a person who is foolish would care what the interest rate on a credit card is. You should worry more about cashback and rewards, not an interest rate. Unless you plan on carrying a balance.

i was thinking of getting one too, to help establish my credit. i have a nice job and i'm only 19 so i dont really need a cc but i thought it'd be better to start now than never.

No carry over for me. I will pay off almost immediately if I'm able to (via internet banking). Good call.

One thing I found is that alot of companies offer protection on purchases over $xxx amount. However, according to a government website (here):

"Under federal law, you are not responsible for charges over $50."

I believe he is implying that you shouldn't even be paying interest if you are paying it off each month. Thus interest is not of interest (hehehe, pun).
