Firing sub down.

I'm building my first "real" box tommorow, and I've decided to aim the speaker downwards. I'm doing this for space reasons.

1)Will this hurt SPL?

2)how many legs do I need and on which sides?

3)Should the port be facing towards the rear?

4)anbody have any designs or know of any free good sub box designers?

5) does 4 cubes sound good?
