The "about:config" command, allows you to fine tune and tweak the inner workings of firefox. You can add a ram disk to store firefox's cache and make it run about 40% faster. Also, if you enable pipelining it will speed up and load a lot faster.

Scroll down to networking, then double click the piplining ones to make them true. then change the pipelining max requests to 30. Doing this will make your pages load much faster.

Impossible!! LOL, You can check for more info about the pipelining on wikipedia. Its the first thing I change on any computer i ever use. I've never heard of it slowing down a PC. Technically its impossible. Did you try restarting firefox??
